“The impact of organ donation goes far beyond the physical healing that it provides. In a world that can often feel cold and disconnected, your work brought so much warmth and light to our family. Your efforts have the power to heal not just bodies but also hearts and souls."  -- Quote from a donor family.

This presentation will focus on the role of designated requestors in providing family support, collaborating with hospital partners, obtaining authorization, and ensuring the family and all stakeholders have a positive experience with the organ donation process. It will also discuss how Nevada Donor Network is leading the way in creating relationships with different disciplines and community partners involved in making organ donation happen.

The family services role does not stop once the family says yes. Nevada Donor Network emphasizes “the gift is in the try” and provides all consented donor families with mementos, including Hearts in a Bottle, a recording of their loved one’s heartbeat, and customized Build-a-Bears. This presentation will also discuss the increase in DCD donors and the extra support families received at the time of extubation.  Aftercare services are also available to all families of authorized donors, regardless of the outcome.
