Introduction: Although relatives of tissue donors have a central role in the tissue donation process, their perspective is insufficiently considered. Therefore, it is still largely unclear which factors influence the decision for or against tissue donation. To contribute to closing this research gap, we conducted a survey of relatives in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gewebetransplantation (German Society for Tissue Transplantation), in which we analyzed the influence of different, particularly institutional, factors on the willingness to donate tissue.
Method: Fully structured telephone interviews with relatives of tissue donors (n=30) were used to investigate which factors influence the decision to donate tissue. In addition to communication with tissue coordinators and selected demographic factors, the study focused in particular on institutional influencing factors: Thus, it was analyzed whether regionality in the allocation of tissues and in relation to the location of the tissue bank as well as the organization of the tissue bank influence the willingness to donate.
Results and Conclusion: As the data is currently still being analyzed, the results and the conclusion cannot yet be described.
